Dear 2nd Grade Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful week.
Notes and Remindersā€¦
*Please make sure to continue to send proper outdoor weather gear. Even though the sun might be shining, it is still a bit chilly during our morning recess.
*The West Maple Milers Club: Milers Club began on April 18th. For the spring session, the students will have the chance to run on Mondays during their lunch recess time. Students will receive a running foot charm on Fridays in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Four times around the field is equal to one mile. It might be a good idea to have your child leave an extra pair of tennis shoes inside of their locker if they intend on participating.
*NWEA test: Second graders have been working on the math NWEA computerized test this week. The following week, they will work to complete the reading portion of the test. We ask your help in ensuring that they get enough rest. We want them to do their very best on the assessment.

*April 21- Peacemakers meeting at 8:00
*April 27- Delayed Start

*Each 2nd Grader should be reading for 20 minutes every night.
* Word Sort Homework is due this Friday 4/22/16

This week in 2nd gradeā€¦
Reading: We are delving into folktales. Second graders will work to recount folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.
G.U.M: The students focus will be to review identifying the subject and predicate of a sentence.
Writing: Students will continue their research on a reptile or amphibian to write paragraphs about. They will use the information that they gather to write a main idea, supporting details and a concluding sentence for each paragraph.

Science: Our new science unit is Balance and Motion. The students will work to observe and compare how objects spin and roll. They will take note of various variables that might influence an object that is spinning. Students will also explore ways to produce rotational motion.

Have a great week!
