Dear 2nd Grade Families,
I hope you had a wonderful vacation with your family. It was nice to see the sunshine and warm weather last weekend! I’m hoping for more days like that in the upcoming weeks.
Notes and Reminders…
  • Please check your child’s VIP binder for their most recent NWEA test results. You might notice a slight drop in your child’s RIT score. This is due in part because this year the test was not read to the students. They had to independently read the questions versus last year when the test was read to them. If you have any questions please feel free to let me know.

  • Please make sure to continue to send proper winter gear. Even though the sun might be shining, it still can be a bit chilly and hats and gloves might be needed.

*Each 2nd Grader should be reading for 20 minutes every night.
*New word sorts are being sent home today. Homework is due on March 4th.

This week in 2nd grade…

In Reading: We are turning our focus to non-fiction text features (table of contents, glossary, index, caption and diagram). Students will use these text features to help them have a better understanding of non-fiction books.
In writing: We are beginning our unit on opinion writing. Students will use a topic sentence to name their opinion on something and give reason and evidence to support their opinion.
In social studies: We are continuing our study of Black History Month. Please ask your second grader to share what they’ve learned about the Underground Railroad.

Have a great week!
Mrs. Giles
